I am making a bc baby shower cake for Sunday and I have already done the baby shoes in fondant. Can they go directly on the buttercream icing or do they need to go a piece of fondant or gumpaste? I was thinking that the mom-to-be could keep the little shoes as they are very hard and turned out pretty cute but was wondering what would happen if they sat on the cake for most of a day? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....pretty new at cake decorating so need advice.
Thanks very much

If you wanted to save them, then I would say not to put them directly on the BC. Maybe you could make a quick fondant plaque to set them on--to serve as a barrier.

You could put them on the bc...all she would have to do to save them is leave them out to dry. I made a baby shower cake and my friend wanted to save the baby head and little outfit I made. They were all stuck in a bath of bc bubbles. We just left them out to dry and they were fine.
