I am making the baby bassinet with a 13x9 cut in half and stacked with a 6 inch round cut in half for the hood. How would I attach the two 6 inch round halves to the base (bed). Could I just stick a dowel rod through each cake half and then one horizontal through the two halves? Sorry this hard to explain!

Yes, it is hard to "see" - I think I get it - yes to dowels. But the horizontal one???? are the rounds flat or standing up?

Since you are using a small bed, I would use only one of the six inch for the hood. When I do my bassinetts, I place the hood on a cake board cut to fit and use the dowel rods. Also, if you ice the two halves for the hood and stack them, you don't have to use dowel rods to hold them, the icing acts like a glue.
