Wanted to make a FBCT today while working with many of the same icing colors for another project, but the cake with the FBCT isn't due until next Saturday. I have't done many FBCT- only one small one to be exact! How long will it last in the freezer? Will I have trouble with colors bleeding if frozen too long? It's a mock Mickey Mouse (since I can't legally use the real image!), so lots of black and red, bold colors. Any suggestions?

i usually do my fbct's a week in advance. i stick them in a ziploc bag and put that in a cookie tin before it goes in the freezer. i've read others on here keep them for longer, so i think you should be fine. sorry, i can't help with the bleeding, but maybe someone else can.

Sometimes is sucks being a Newbie.. you have to ask some pretty silly questions... but what is FCBT?

I love this board... can see why it is addicting!

Thanks!
And the cookie tin is a great idea!
I sometimes save extra bc roses, and even royal icing items (I always make more in case of breakage) and store these in ziplocks on a cake board. The tin would protect them so much better. I don't have enough tuperware to spare, but do have a few tins in with Christmas decorations. I'll be pulling those out soon- Thanks!

brirac, welcome to CC!

a fbct is a frozen buttercream transfer. there's a great tutorial here. http://www.cakecentral.com/article12-How-To-Create-a-Frozen-Buttercream-Transfer.html

i use this technique all the time now after i learned about it here. i love that it can be done in advance. there's less worry on getting a cake done on time after a long day's work.
