you were going to cover with fondant? What would you add/subtract to the mix to end up with a more dense cake?

I have a devil's food mix.

Ohh Im interested too, my BIL Birthday is coming up and he wants Devil Food Cake... I guess you'd just doctor it the same way most do with a packet of pudding & an extra egg?

I have never changed anything. Cover with buttercream and then with fondant.

My question is, what if it already has pudding in the box mix??????
Do you still put in a packet of pudding?

I dont do the pudding and egg I do the extender recipe. Ya get moist, dense cakes..great for bc and/or fondant!

I do the same thing, but I use either one the egg or the pudding. It works just fine

i use both 1 extra egg & pudding

but this may help--do the push down method, it makes a cake dense

I use BC devil food mix to cover with fondant all the time and never have had to do anything to it..works great

I use the DH Devils Food cake mix and add and extra egg plus a box of chocolate fudge instant pudding mix. It is really yummy. Bake at 325 though....
