Hi All,

I am usually very good with ideas for cakes and never struggle.......There is a first time for everything though... I am struggling with a 16th birthday for a boy and girl. The colors are Red and Blue. I have a picture of them and I am suppose to do a edible art of them on the cake which is no problem. My problem is how do I do a red and blue design on a white iced 16th birthday cake without it looking like a 4th of July cake????? I have thought of maybe taking a brush and splattering effect of red and blue on the icing??? I thought of maybe spraying rd and blue for a tie dye effect... I am very undecided right now and I need to start on this cake and finish by tomorrow night. Help Please!!!!

One thing I would think might help is to avoid bright primary shades for the red and blue. I don't know how much leeway you have in this, but maybe a cornflower blue and a deeper red?

Maybe you could do red and blue as polka dots in various sizes? Some sort of pattern would help- just not stars! LOL I think a navy or denim colored blue might look less 4th of July-ish. I'm guessing that this is on a sheet cake? You could do red drop flowers with a blue border? Looking forward to seeing a pic!

Could you avoid the white icing completely and do red icing with blue accents or blue icing with red? You could also do ivory icing and use more of a deep red/maroon with a navy or country blue.

I like the tied died effect sounds cute.

What about doing something in the line of 'bluejeans' or using at least the outlines that jeans have and maybe their faces on the pockets? But teens and bluejeans are a sure bet!

So far so good. Keep the ideas flowing. I have to stay with a white icing base because the edible art will turn a different color if I put it on anything other than white background.

I really like the blue jeans idea with maybe a red cell phone or keychain or something like that in the pocket. If you are in atate where they get their license at 16, maybe do the license on the cake. Hope one of these ideas helps and will be looking forward to seeing pics. Good luck!!! thumbs_up.gif
