I have a cake with an octopus on top that I need some support help with guys. Here is the basics: Bottom layer is a 10" square, next and 8" square, then on top of that two round 6" for the octopus body and a half ball on top of those to form the head of the octopus. The lady would like the arms of the octopus to not just sit on the two lower cakes, but curl into the air sort of...
So... any ideas for supports? I thought about fondant around wire, but then how can I support the weight of the fondant on the wire stuck into the cake?
This is a very detailed cake. She wants little rings and brancelets on the octopus. I am using a lot of timy drages and luster dust on this one!
Cakes are baked and in the freezer... I can harly wait to decorate it. I wonder if I could cover it in fondant today and decorate tomrrow and it still be fresh enough for Saturday? Anyone? I am dying to get my hands on it!~

Thanks,

Well, if I envision this right; you are going to need cake boards and dowels.
It sounds as if you are having 4 layers and a half ball.
I cake board and dowel every 2 layers, so working from the bottom...
cake board,10",8"with dowels going through to the bottom, cake board,6",6"with dowels, cake board, half ball.
Did that make sense?
