Hi,
Have taken a new wedding order for October. Bride has inquired about a cake stand. Being fairly new and not having all the beautiful accessories for wedding cakes yet I was wondering if the pretty silver cake stands are available to rent. Have any of you ever been able to do that? Please let me know so I can let the bride know then proceed as necessary. I do know these stands can be very pricey but if necessary I'll purchase one for future use as well. TIA everyone. icon_wink.gif

You can definitely rent these stands, check your local cake supply store. The only problem with you renting it is that you are ultimately responsible if it does not come back or is damaged. Plus, you want to make sure that you charge the bride for the rental. I have since learned to purchase my own stands and rent them out to the brides myself. I charge a rental fee and a deposit, so that if it doesn't come back or is damaged, I use the deposit to replace it. If the stand comes back in its original condition, then I just give back the deposit, but the rental fee is mine because I am reserving it for that specific bride. Good luck finding the stand. I know in this area Rhode Island there is a store that I can rent from.. not sure if there is one where you are I would think you should check with your local cake decorating stores to see if they have this to offer. I dont see why not. If not it is a nice thing to have for future use. Its tough bieng new, I still dont have everything I need and sometimes it seems like I dont make any money on a particular cake because of all the stuff I have to buy just to make it. stuff that you cant charge the customer for ya know.

Check your rental fee first then compare to buying one. You can always buy one then charge rental fee to brides (plus a refundable deposit which would be price to replace if they don't return) so it would pay for itself after a few weddings.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. Yes, I have a supply store I frequently purchase from. I will inquire there.
