home depot sells plastic containers and lids for cheap. They work really well. I use to hold all my staples (sugar, salt, flour ect...) in pantry. I insert heavy duty plastic bag before filling close with rubber band or tie wrap. They also sell what looks like a giant can opener to help open cause once lid on hard to open (for me, and honey not alway around to help).

Be wary, everyone, with bulk powdered sugar. I learned the hard way. The reason it doesn't make as nice an icing is because it may be only 6x, not the 10x powdered sugar we are all used to. Just make sure to check the bag.

on the topic of cake boards....I found them fairly cheap at www.bakingtools.com - they have all sizes....they are covered on one side with wax paper ....and you can order up to $99 worth and the shipping is only $10. Haven't received them yet....but I'll let ya'll know what I think.

Ooooh! Let us know if they are nice!!! I'd love some round boards that I don't have to cover with foil. *SO SICK OF THAT!!!*

Does anyone know if Costco offers this as well?? I already spent a bundle on boards in bulk over the internet ($40 for a case of 100, plus $25 for shipping!) We don't have a Sam's around here....

I just inquired about buying cake boards at my local Sam's and walked away with several pages of items available for purchase. Basically, anything they buy to make their cakes they will sell to you. Of course everything is in large quantities, but the gel colors for example : their bottles are big (maybe 8-10 oz.) the sell from between 3.50 and 4.50 per. I ahd just left Michael's and bought three 1 oz bottles of color for 1.99 each. You can buy tips, and pastry bags, sprinkles, fillings in resealable tubs, even a huge tub of whipped icing. They sell different styles of boxes and the clear plastic dome covers. I was so excited after talking with them. And they were super nice- gave me a direct phone number to the bakery, told me when to place orders and when they would be filled, etc. Also if it is between orders and they have enough stock they will sell from what they have on hand. What a great resource!

the cake boards that I talked about in my previous post are even cheaper at ultimatebaker.com. They have parchment on one side, not wax paper...same difference if you ask me.

ultimatebaker.com has EVERYTHING!! Holy cow!!!

BUT, when I matched up their pack of 50 13X18 1/2 sheet boards to the ones I got at Sam's back in August, they wanted $32.07!!!! I got mine at Sam's for $8.xx!!!! For that particular size (and a razor knife to cut them up with) I'll stick w/ Sam's! icon_smile.gif

Costco carries C&H in 25lb. bags. Just an FYI...

And sorry, but Costco does not sell their supplies.

I don't have a Sam's here but I will have to check at our super wal-mart. When I was doing a few grad. cakes they just let me have a few scrolls at no charge. So I guess next time I go I will definatly check out if I can buy stuff from them icon_biggrin.gif

I have a COSTCO membership but I think I might have to join Sam's Club. A little further away but I think it may be worth it for the cake boards!

I was already planning on going to Sam's today to get some supplies. I'm definitely going to ask what they have available for cake stuff!! My Sam's doesn't have C & H sugar, but it does have 7 lb bags of Domino's for $4.13. I get 4 lbs of butter for about $7.00 too, which is soooo much better than the regular grocery store.

Thanks for the tip! I would never have known that Sam's sells to suppliers.

I know I already commented on another thread but, I can't resist. I went to Sams and they gave me a three page list fo everything they carried. You can buy boxes, boards, whipped icing, even pre made bags of colored icing- 24 of one color for 12 bucks!! I don't do this cause I want it to taste like my icing. But I do buy the whipped icing and break it into seperate containers and freeze it. Works great for me!
I guess the thing that blew me away the most was the flower swags. You get four of them for $8 and they have like 12 flowers on each one! These have been great for last minute orders they look a little like lillies and come in peach, yellow , purple and pink.
When I order from my sams I have to wait two weeks to pick it up. But it is worth it.
OOne word of caution ordering boxes. I got mine from online and they seemed so cheap. Yeah well I check the dimensions in width but not the depth, all my boxes were only four inches deep!!! ugh ugh ugh ALL MY TWO LAYER CAKES ARE TALLER THAN THE BOX!!

MY MISTAKE
