Ok so I was thinking of ways that when I do start my businesshow I can stand out above everyone else. I am destined to be a business owner, it is what I think about every day so there is no doubt SOMETHING in the future will happen I just have to find that perfect idea.

Anyway I was tossing around the idea of catering theme parties for ALL ages, children to adults. From something as simple as a cake, favors and decorations all the way to cake, decorations, food and costumes and favors.

For example say someone comes in wanting a pirate party, I would provide for the FULL package, a pirate cake, pirate party favors, food, pertaining to pirates, decoreations and even a rented pirate costume for either just the host or for all the guests as well. oh and if they choose to have us cater then the caterer for the party will also be dresed the part.

anything from a princess party all the way to theme parties from the decades (20's, 50's, 60's etc...)

Does anyone think that this would potentially work? I don't know if there is something out there like this although I am sure there probably is somewhere but what do you all think about this?

It sounds great but would be a big undertaking. If you are renting costumes, then you'd have to have a huge inventory. Maybe start off doing cakes or favors and eventually add to what you offer...bigger party packages, decorations, etc.

If it's something you really want to do, I say go for it. I've read on here where people offer kids cake decorating parties, that always sounded fun to me.

I had the exact same idea a few months ago... I will have to wait until my kids are in school to pursue anything full time though. There is already a franchise that does something similar called Oogles & Googles (www.ooglesandgoogles.com). I would love to know what they charge for parties. Of course, I bet their cakes are nowhere as cool as what we could do! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm doing something like that here where I am and I agree with Danar, you just have to know from the beginning that it is a very large undertaking. Before I got interested in cakes, I started off planning weddings. So eventually, the goal of my business is to be a full service event planning firm. From the cake to the food to the decorations, etc. It can get to be alot of work doing an event from beginning to end.

A few years ago my sister and I opened a business for children's theme parties. We had several themes to choose from (age appropriate)...we provided everything...food, cake, invitations, party favors, etc. We provided costumes for the attendees (depending on the theme), activities, games...the works!!!! All the parents had to do was mail their invitations and just show up. We had our own place of business.

It was a hugh hit...we stayed booked every weekend. However, please remember this will tie up every weekend because that is when most parties are held. We worked from Friday night thru Sunday night and the rest of the week was used booking parties and preparing for the weekend.

Went to Oogles and Googles web-site, they have franchises. I think I may look into this opportunity. They have nothing like this besides Princess Parties, where I live.

thanks the the tips and advice. this is somethign I would probab;y look at starting in 2 years when all my kids are in school. right now I am concentrating on just cakes. I do realize it will be a BIG undertaking and will take up my weekends, but if it gets to the point that I will have staff I won't be stuck there EVERY weekend. My friends own the bounce factory (a moonwalk, air jumpyplace) and they are doing pretty well with their kids parties and such and have gotten tot he point that they donot have to be there full time.

I am sure in 2 years though I will have plenty of time to think through it and see if this idea is one I REALLY want to do or if life takes me in a different direction.

I've been trying to figure out how to do the same thing...with NO BUDGET....and this is where I am headed for now.
There are many online Party Shops that offer what is called an "Affiliate Program" They give you a site (just like the ones you've seen, with your name on it. You link this to your cake site & they take care of everything. You get a (small) percentage of the sale...usually 12%-15%. You can also make your own purchases & pass them on to customers.
Obviously you will not make what you could owning a store but as a start it's better than nothing & all the work is done for you..no inventory & no investment!
There are all kinds of sites that offer Affiliate programs. Just check the home page/site map on every site. A few dollars here and there can add up.
I spent many hours finding sites (you can also just look up "Affiliate Programs".
All these programs are FREE.

I discovered this because I wanted a way to show customers "the whole package" of a party theme. I want to set my pages up something like a scrapbook.
Here's the cake and....favors, theme props, paper goods, backdrops, costumes ect. All shown working together. If you affiliate to these sites you can use their images.

Besides just the party supplies I also plan on having these links to other related items...gifts that they can buy at the local store...unique high end online stores.. gift/houseware , golf/sports, baby, toys oh and weddings....tons of stuff out there..personal web pages, invitations, favors, gowns, jewelry........
I can suggest the perfect gift.

But not a huge mess of links, just select ones.
Hopefully I become a party destination stop not just a cake site....they get a unique cake, desserts, all party supplies, table setting ideas and a unique gift and they never leave the house!!
These pages aren't on my site yet, I am still working on "my new discovery" but the wheels are turning.

**just a note.....I am NOT selling any of these things it's just an idea I came across that I am going to try.

sorry this was long, but I find the idea exciting!
