I am getting ready to buy a KA mixer. I need some info on watts and what is a good mixer that will last me a long time. Is a 300 watt KA a good one to go with. I will be making mmf and gumpaste. I want one to last. Thanks

If you can get the 525 watts or higher it would be better for making mmf. I have the professional 6 one and it even kind of groaned when I made my mmf. I know they are more expensive but they will last longer and the bowl is 6 quarts as apposed to 4 or 5 quarts...hope this helps...

I would say the 525 watts. I had a smaller watt ka but gave it to my daughter because I wanted a bigger one. I don't know if two batches of bc will fit in a small ka. The bowls are smaller.

I had a 300 watt. It worked ok but if you are going to use it for lots of baking then I would suggest you buy the 525 watt or higher if you can afford it. Bed, Bath and Beyond and Linens and things sometimes have coupons for 50% off . I think that is how I got mine ...might be worth it to check...hth

I have the Artisan model and it's not really big enough to do 2 batches of icing. I use it in this way, but I'm sure I'm overloading the motor somewhat.. esp when the icing is dry. The 5 qt bowl isn't really big enough and the beater is nearly covered with 2 batches.

Actually, I'm a little disappointed with KA b/c of the "poof" of flour or icing sugar you get when you first turn on the machine. To avoid this poof into the air (and all over the counter), i usually mix the icing a little by hand before turning on the machine. Not sure if other brands have the same problem though.

I have a 300 watt Kitchen Aid and it would not do very good with 2 batches or mmf. I did burn up the motor making doggie cookies (don't ask!) and Kitchen Aid replaced my mixer.
My husband bought me the splatter shield to eliminate the powdered sugar "Puff". But I also found if I just turn my mixer down to "1" when adding it slowly it doesn't fly all over. icon_smile.gif

I am trying to figure out which Ka is really worth the money put into it. I found one from bed bath and beyond for 279. It has a 400 watt motor with a 5 quart bowl. Should this last me a good while. I am sorry for keeping this question going but cc folks have helped me with a ton of stuff so I got to get the answer. Thanks
