I tried my first fondant cake today...not too bad. I havn't tried it yet but my husband says it's good. I used a marshmallow fondant recipe and though easy to work with, he felt it was a little too sweet. So, I have a few questions...

1. Is there a premade fondant that I can buy that tastes good? If so, where do I get it?

2. Is there a fondant recipe that I can try that tastes good?

3. Does fondant always have to go over buttercream? How thick should the buttercream be?

4. Is fondant the icing used on most wedding cakes and specialty cakes?

TIA everyone!

These are good questions. I hope someone answers because I, too, haven't worked with fondant, but I will be soon when my Course III comes up.

I prefer Satin Ice fondant. It is the best tasting pre-made fondant I have found. The chocolate tastes like a soft silky tootsie roll and the vanilla tastes like a smooth marshmallow.
The two links below are the sites I order from.
The first one excepts credit cards.
The second is the manufacture. The minimum order is 40 pounds and they don't take credit cards. Checks or C.O.D. only but they are cheaper per pound than any other site.

Fondant can go over any smooth icing or you can heat preserves to a boil, strain, cool until still pourable, then pour over cake and smooth quickly.

Wedding cakes are usually butter cream or fondant.

My cakes are fondant (speciality cakes).
