Flat Slot Machine Cake-How To?

My momsa' birthday is coming up and she is addicted to slot machines. So I want to do a flat sheet cake carved into a slot machine. And I probalby will hand paint it. B ut this is as far as I gotten. I've looked in the gallery and found some realy nice cakes but not what I'm looking for. Anyone with any ideas on where to start or how to do this?

I am picturing the same kind of shape I did for a jukebox cake I made. It's in my photos if you want to look at it.

one possibility

(could carve out the coin tray and use that to build up the window area)
