Thank-you for all the advice.
I too am transporting (30 miles) a tiered cake for the first time and have found all the advice very helpful.

Good lord, that stupid website shows as spam.com...??

It's Logicpic's website at logicpic -dot-com logicpic.com--no idea why their website doesn't show on here. eye roll

They have a great system that is reusable and cheap enough to be disposable, and I LOVE it. The bases are predrilled with a hole for the center dowel, the plates are predrilled centered, and you can get any size you want.

I'm so happy my tiered cake made it!!! It was my first wedding cake!
I followed a lot of the advice here and also put a sign on my back window "Wedding Cake on Board"

sun.....
Thank you for sharing all your tips and advice on the center dowel method!! I shivvered at the thought of ramming a dowel DOWN the center of a whole cake as I could see so many disasters!! Your method makes so much sense! BUT....
one extra thought.....
some people cut their layer dowels for each layer according to the height of each layer....I read WRONG! Don't do that!! Cut them as you said all the same length because if you have one layer that is a little off, then your cake has now become a tipsy turvy cake! I have never thought of that either! How awful to have a tipsy cake after all that work!
