I am doing a boy baby shower cake and the mom-to-be sent me this pic of what his room is gonna look like. I will probably be doing it in mmf...so any ideas of how/what it should be like? You all are soooo good so I wanted to get some input from ya'll!
And maybe what americolors are the colors in the pic? I really suck at that icon_wink.gif

Terra cotta and warm brown come to mind first for Americolors - maybe sky blue with a touch of violet for the blue. Definitely make the bear and maybe the other animals. They could be sitting on the bale (or maybe just a bed) of hay (grass tip with straw color). Maybe do the whole cake like the quilt. Strange room for a baby.

How much cake? Probly enough for 30-40 people...
I love the look of the room. They are a country couple; into horses, camping, jeeping, etc. I saw the room and the walls are already painted, it looks fantastic.
I was thinking maybe a 3 tiered, dunno how many that feeds though.

I'm no help on the colors - but the design?

I like the block quilt - you could incorporate that around the sides of the cake. Make fondant "ropes" to circle your tiers. I love the horseshoes. Those in chocolate would be darling around the cake (and make cute party favors too bagged up and tied with some sisal rope.)

And three tiers seems large for 30-40 people. Maybe 2 tiers? a 10" and a 14"? That would be PLENTY of cake.

i love the horseshoes and the idea of a rope border and the bears sitting on a bale of hay. a wooden looking cake board would look great too.

There is fence post too..you could maybe do quilt around and on the top like the bed on top, and the bottom tier could have the hay and fence posts around the sides.

Then you could put the rope, either woven into the fence posts with fondant, or as a border between the two tiers and have the fence posts a bit higher than the first tier.

Then you could make little bears and rabbits to sit on the top of the first tier, leaning their backs on the top tier, with their legs poking between the fence posts.

Then on top of the top tier on/under the quilt you could have the baby sleeping. Is sounds like a lot when I type it all out, but my vision isn't too busy.

Hope one of these Ideas helps. I think the hay will be fine in his room until he's about 10-12 months old...then, if it were MY kid, they would be pulling it all out. It wouldn't matter HOW MANY times I told them no. icon_smile.gif

I could totally run with this. I think the room is adorable!

BRAINSTORMING HERE:
Bears for sure, don't forget their bandanas!
Horse shoes (topper maybe or maybe just done in fondant on the side)
I like the idea from the previous poster about the quilt look on the cake, but maybe only one layer. Possibly do a marbled look on the other layer.
Totally gotta do the rope border (check this out: http://tinyurl.com/qh9t6 I love that rope detail)
Don't do the plaid unless you know you can get it to look right.
Lantern
Topper idea: Bear with a copy of the original quilt in its lap and a lantern and bale of hay behind it
I like the tree look and might try to incorporate that into something... icon_biggrin.gif

I wish I was doing this cake!

Three layers... how about one with terra-cotta like the walls. Maybe a tan rope border like is around the blanket and some writing in the rope. Maybe some wagon wheels somewhere. A layer of the blue with brown horseshoes, boots, etc. around it. I actually have a great mold that would work for this... picture below.

I got it here: http://www.cakecraftshoppe.com/proddetail.asp?id=1631&mcatshow=0&ncur=4.

On top you could make a rectangle shape cake (or even just fondant if you have enough cake at that point) and decorate it like the bed... with the blanket, some pillows, a bear, etc. You could even do the posts... maybe pretzel sticks dipped in milk chocolate and then painted with white chocolate to look like the bark... or fondant.

Looks like it will be a fun cake to make with that picture for inspiration!

Love all the ideas so far! If you want the look of a three tier but don't need all the cake; top the cake with a small square of cake decorated with the grass tip to look like a bail of hay, maybe even wrap a thin blue ribbon of icing around the bail, and have a small (mini) 3D bear leaning against the hay. I like the idea of incorporating the fence in it too. Wonder if it could be multiple fbct- done on a slightly curved mold so it would fit right around the cake- just piece them together.
Beautiful room btw!

What about making a sheet cake to look like the bed, with a copy of the quilt on it. Make bear and other items out of fondant, or candy clay, and set them on top. Make the "tree" post and put on the four corners, like real bed. Chrysb
