I'm making a cake in the shape of a brain. It's for my friend's son's birthday. I'm going to use a round cake and cut it to look like a flat section of the brain. Is a box cake strong enough or should I make a dense scratch cake? I don't want the cake falling apart while I'm cutting it. Or could I freeze it and cut it when it's partially thawed?

How about a pound cake? Or add pudding to the box cake. DH has a recipe on the side for pound cake made with pudding. icon_smile.gif

I'm not sure, but what I usually use for all of my cakes is a doctored cake mix. I combine the mix with 4 eggs, a box of instant pudding, a cup of milk, and 1/3 cup of vegetable oil. It seems to work OK for me. Good luck!
