Well I made the mmf for the first time this past weekend on a racecar cake and have to replicate it in two more weeks for someone else. I was wandering a couple of things. When i made it I put crisco in the bowl I used to microwave it in and on the spoon I used to stir it with. Does crisco change the taste of the mmf? Make it too greasy or anything? Then after I let it set over night and used it the next day it was fine to use. When I Kneaded it and rolled it out I used confectioners sugar on the mat and the rolling pin. It still had a lot of sticking and I would have to add more sugar to it. Is something else better to use? ANd then how on earth do you get the white sugar off your colored mmf.? I had to make a black road and used a slightly damped papertowel to dab off the sugar and I dont know if this is the correct way of doing it. My last question, if your following me, is how do you adhere it to your iced buttercream cake to make it stay on. I made banners to go on the side, mixed a little conf sugar and water (made a glue) and dabbed it on the back. It acted like it couldve falled off at any time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

To answer the question of colored fondant vs white powdered sugar. I use a lage dusting brush to dust it off. I use crisco (very, very lightly) instead of ps to roll out the fondant. Nothing to dust off after wards.

I guess that makes most sense! But it does not change the taste of the fondant?

With MMF I find that I have to use Crisco to roll out and to work with it -- it takes the stickiness away as well. I have found that it does not change the flavor at all to add Crisco...I also find that when I am kneading the next day I have to add some Crisco to my MMF to get it to that elastic good stage to work with...like I said I've never thought it tastes greasy...

As for putting MMF on BC, I don't put anything on the back to adhere to BC (I do use a bit of corn syrup for glue when adhering MMF to MMF pieces) - it would make it too wet and it could possibly slip -- if your BC has crusted and you aren't getting a good stick - I would put a bit of fresh BC on the back of the MMF piece so that the BC adheres to itself..

Good luck...

When I use/make MMF I use the crisco to roll out the MMF I even put it on my rolling pin. I do not notice a change in taste. It works well. Good luck.
