I am about to buy a couple of impression mats to make my daughter's birthday cake (a princess castle). I want to make the castle look like it is made out of bricks. I have never used impression mats before and just want to know how hard they are to use. Do you use them before or after you put the fondant on the cake? Any advice/tips would be very helpful. Thanks!!

After you put the fondant on. Immediately after. The 1st time I used an impression mat on fondant I waited too long, and I couldn't get the impression without cracking the fondant. Also, they work great on buttercream too, but you have to wait until it crusts! So, fondant - right away. Buttercream, let it crust. Hope this helps!
