I will be doing my daughter's bridal shower cake next month and want to do a small flower arrangement on top. Knowing my gumpaste/fondant flower making skills are still in the very early stages, I am not confident enough to do them for the cake, and considering opting for some real nice silk flowers so the cake looks special for her........ so why do I feel like such a cheater (even failure) because it wont' be all done by hand? icon_cry.gif Has anyone else ever felt that way?

They will be done by hand - YOUR HAND WILL PUT THEM ON THE CAKE. I have seen tons of beautiful cakes with silk flowers on them, and they are all "Done by Hand"

Sometimes, depending on the flower, silk flowers look much nicer than gum paste. Don't sweat the small stuff. Unless your daughter is a bridezilla, just the fact that you are making her wedding cake will be the best to her anyway.

I do it all the time when there is a topper piece the bride can keep. It can be unique piece for her.

You can also buy them at www.wholesalesugarflowers.com. Their prices are great and mine arrived without a single broken flower or leaf.

I knew I could count on you all for support to make me feel better. thumbs_up.gif
I guess doing a silk flower arrangement would be a better keepsake than a gumpaste one (no worry of accidently breaking). I really need to practice more on the making of flowers as someday I would like to be able to do an "arrangement" to be proud of.
