Okay, I know I am early, but I really want this off my mind for a bit icon_smile.gif. I am contemplating doing my daughter's bday cake this year. We are having a Halloween themed party and I thought a topsy turvey cake would be cute. I came up with this extremely rough sketch, but am not sure I like it. Also, I would love ideas for cake flavors, fillings, etc. It's for a child's party. The only cakes I have done have been single or 2 layer cakes-- pretty basic. I would prefer not to have to refrigerate fillings if possible.

Okay.. basic details.. I am thinking of purchasing some poseable skeletons and ghosts to sit in front of the dummy tiers (the green wedges) to hide them a bit. The rest would be in buttercream with fondant accents and I was going to make some gumpast spiders to go on top and down. I would love decorating ideas, criticisms, etc. Colors are not set in stone, neither are cake shapes-- I may go back to all rounds.. I thought these were Halloweeny icon_smile.gif... but am not crazy about them. Please!!! Any creative input is GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!

that is SUCH a cute design i love the colors. ive never done a topsy turvy...I'm just curious how you keep the 2nd and 3rd tiers from sliding when they are resting on a crooked plane? i read the instructions on this site for doing a mad hatter cake and the instructions tell you to cut into the crooked top cake below to make it flat for the tier above to sit on so its stable.

anyways i trust you'll figure out logistics icon_biggrin.gif my advice for a couple fun ideas...have a scary jack-in-the-box popping out of the top box or a couple 3D webs (made from chocolate? or gumpaste?) attached to different parts of the cake

Thanks!! Actually, I got the logistics from a post here-- using styrofoam wedges icon_smile.gif. http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopic-27325-0-days0-orderasc-.html

I don't trust myself cutting into cakes at this point LOL. The Jack o Lantern idea is cute!! I was thinking of maybe using cotton candy stretched out as spider webs.... not sure though icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the ideas!!!

Love your design! For flavors, how about a one of the cakes Chocolate w/ peanut butter buttercream. I'm doing one for my niece next week. Also, (I didn't like it myself, but) my daughter wanted strawberry cupcakes w/ chocolate frosting and the kids loved them. They are also very big fans of the chocolate w/ vanilla buttercream... The bottom should be a real pumpkin orange color. I really like it because its real halloween looking but not gothic and scary -- perfect for a birthday. I can't wait to see how it turns out! I wish you were making it sooner!
