Looking for opinions on which is the best White cake - I have a cake to make on Thursday -and I don't like eating cake, dh doesn't need it...which recipe from the CC recipe section would you suggest as a classic/tried and true - regardless of box/scratch cake.

I just don't want to bring a cake, and then people not like it...I thought about doing the WASC w/ a raspberry mousse filling...but am open to any other ideas (the filling is a MUST per the hostess).

I think that the WASC cake would be a perfect match to the raspberry mousse filling! Sounds yummy! I don't have any other suggestions! sorry icon_sad.gificon_biggrin.gif

I made my first WASC cake and took it to work today for a coworkers birthday and they just RAVED about it. I was told that I should enter a contest (they haven't seen the work on this site - you guys are great) but they all loved the cake. I think it would be a good choice.

WASC is so good, you dont take the sour cream, the almond flavor is just right not too much or too little.
Very good.

If you're just looking for a white color cake I like DH French Vanilla...i make it with a raspberry filling or a cheesecake mousse filling and there usually isn't a crumb left...

Nope you read it right icon_wink.gif ever since taking the Wilton courses...my sweet tooth has been non existant. *If* I were to eat any cake -which would be a rarity, there are only perhaps 4 types...my Red velvet, Black Forest, Devils Food, or German Chocolate.

I just don't have a desire for cake after working w/ them...and don't really like that much sweet stuff now - I don't even really like ice cream now.

I really like and have had good reviews with the WASC cake. It's a nice, moist cake so it gets my vote. My son is a picky eater and he really likes it!

Anyone have a link to this recipe? I just tried searching WASC and can't find it. Thanks.

Mmmmm, that sounds delicious. Thanks. I've never made a cake from scratch, but I think I'll try this one. Yum. Is it a good cake for stacking?

One o fmy most requested recipes is Creme Broulee cake with raspberry fillings. Just use a white cake mix, add an extra egg, and replace the water with Creme Broulee liquid coffee creamer. It's perfect with the raspberry filling!

The WASC cake IS my white cake now. I start with DH classic white and go from there.

Oops, I just read the recipe and realized it includes a boxed cake mix... I guess it's not really scratch then is it?

I still consider the WASC cake scratch because you add so many other ingredients to it. It is so yummy!!!

I consider any cake I don't purchase from a bakery to be considered 'scratch.' icon_biggrin.gif

Question...do you have to put the almond extract in...not a huge fan of almond flavoring...should you add extra vanilla, or just omit the almond completely?

I do the DH white cake, and use the Cake Mix Extender recipe on here, and get rave reviews, and it stacks very nice!

My favorite white cake is the White Butter Cake from the Whimsical Bakehouse Book. It is light but with a great crumb. Add raspberry mousse filling and it is perfection!
Good luck, you are going to get a ton of options!

I just tried the Cake Mix Doctor's White Chocolate Lemon cake and got raves. It calls for lemon curd in the middle, but raspberry anything would be totally yummy, too
