Mmf And Making Decorations....

Hi, Everyone,
I'm new to this site. I can't believe I didn't find it before this! Anyway, I'm going to try making MMF. I have only worked with the Wilton fondant one time and it tasted terrible. Can you also make flowers, cutouts and the ribbons with this, or should I use gumpaste for that?
Also, when you make gumpaste, do you tell your customers not to eat it? I thought it tasted bad, too. I made some little flowers for cupcakes.
One more question. If you're making a cake and the buttercream has butter in it under the MMF, is it okay to put MMF in the refrigerator?
Thanks so much.
Michele
I've never made fondant figures or anything of like but after reading many, many posts, I believe it's a 50/50 mix of gumpaste and fondant. BUT I could be wrong and getting something else that uses that mixture mixed up in my head.
I'm sure someone will come along and correct me.
Hi Michele, Below are my thoughts / experiences:
Can you also make flowers, cutouts and the ribbons with this, or should I use gumpaste for that? YES - YOU CAN USE MMF FOR THESE DECORATIONS
Also, when you make gumpaste, do you tell your customers not to eat it? I thought it tasted bad, too. I made some little flowers for cupcakes. YES - I TELL MY GUESTS TO NOT EAT IT (IF I'M THERE I USUALLY REMOVE THE DECORATIONS; THEY FIGURE IT OUT QUICKLY ENOUGH THEY DON'T WANT TO EAT SOMETHING ROCK HARD)
One more question. If you're making a cake and the buttercream has butter in it under the MMF, is it okay to put MMF in the refrigerator? (YES - YOU CAN PUT IN THE FRIDGE; I ALWAYS LIKE TO PUT MINE IN A BOX AND COVER LIGHTLY WITH PLASTIC WRAP)
Have fun with it!
