I was just asked to do a wedding cake and the woman said she was at a wedding and the cake tasted fruity and they said it was almond extract. Does anyone know if this could be true and if so do I just add the extract to any cake mix or is there a certain recipe.

Thanks,
Amanda

Yes you can add ALMOND FLAVOR to a reg. CAKE MIX. I myself sub. the water measurement with the ALMOND EXTRACT. Now keep in mind some ALMOND EXTRACT is STRONGER than others SO maybe make a sample batch if you have time.

I'll go & look here in a bit & see what brand I use. I have to get kiddos feed & ready for school. So It might be a few.

How much water does a cake mix take???

I do several scratch cakes with almond extract and at MOST I'd use a teaspoon per 9" round. It's very strong (and by it I mean the stuff you buy in the supermarket, nothing special) and it easily overpowers whatever it's with.

Well, first of all I didn't word that
right..............SOOOOOORRY!!! My mix takes a 1 1/4 cup of water. And I subtitute the Almond for the 1/4 cup of water. Again I'm sorry, I don't explain myself well!
I went to look what kind I use & I'm out and don't know the brand.

It could have been almond extract combined with creme bouquet. When adding this to a cake mix I put 1 t almond and 1T creme bouquet in my measuring cup and then add enough water to make the 1 1/4cups. That way you are not adding too much liquid to your mix.

You might want to try a couple of recipes, the first is my favorite cake:

White Almond Wedding Cake (this has almond PASTE in it, not just the flavoring...YUMMY!)

the other I've never tried but sounds good!

White Almond Sour Cream Cake:
