AFter 4 months and a lot of frustration, I finally have my extra room that I use for all my cake stuff organized!! I have to thank my daughter for all her hard work and helping me out. At one point, she and I both were so frustrated because it seemed we were getting no where as there was so much stuff and it was so unorganized all over in boxes from the move in June ... I went to Sam's Club and bought me a very large commercial grade stainless steel shelf and another smaller one to put all my boxes and pans on ... everything is pretty much labeled and grouped together ... I even bought a small folding table and a couple of chairs so that I can decorate in the room .. the room is just off my kitchen and very accessible. I think it's going to work really well for me ![]()
Next, some nice cake/pastry looking curtains for the room ![]()
I wish I just had a room to put it all in. Right now I have it stuffed into a closet that is beginning to overflow.. ![]()
Looks Great!!!
Thanks ladies ... I'm sure it'll need some tweeking later but at least it's orgainized!! When I tell you I had only a trail in that room, I mean it ! lol .... I had dragged things out of boxes and restacked it on top of other boxes... when it all began falling over, and was turning into a huge pile of cake decorating stuff and I began to buy stuff that I already had because I couldn't find it, I had to do something ... thus the shelves .. I already had the plastic containers and the plastic drawers, but I had to have something to put all my pans on .. all my shaped pans are in the large containers at the top.. all the seperator plates, cake stands are all in containers on the top shelf; which my daughter wrote what each container contains for me
I rented a 2-bedroom apartment because there was no way all my stuff would fit in a one bedroom apartment ..
now I can find all my things!! we made one of the plastic cabinet/drawer things, just for gumpaste/fondant items ... another plastic cabinet/drawer thing is for candy items ... I even put all my cake mixes on the shelves so I know exactly what I have on hand .. I'm so proud of my room!! ![]()
I love when my stuff feels organized, very refreshing! I can't wait to get out of my apartment and buy a house... my boyfriend and I are fighting over whether the basement will be a cake room or a theatre room. I told him "Well, I'm either taking the basement or the garage...." He shut up really quick! ![]()

When ya coming to my house to do mine? HeHe.
I sooo know having a path. When I first moved i had everything in boxes and all the boxes lined around the room. Worked pretty well at first until I needed something that was in the bottom box. I'd move all the others and they would never get stacked back agian. Then I added stuff, then I had more junk to deal with. My path really isn't much of a path any more. It's more like open the door and there is everything!
My goal is to get everything in plastic containers and seperated out to make it easier to find. Last time I bought plastic boxes I bought like 20+ of them in different sizes. I didn't get very far with those.
I've been collecting cake stuff since 2001, so I have a pretty big 'pile' of it.
Congrats on gettign organized!
Thank you!! Thank you!! It feels so wonderful.. I left that bedroom door open; something I haven't done since I moved here... everytime I walk by it, I look into it and just smile .. it just feels so good to have finally accomplished getting that dreadful unorganized room all organized! The best part is, I can find everything now!! ![]()

I am soooo jealous of your room... I had one once. But my youngest son decided to make me a grandmother while in High School. And I have custody of my darling grandson since he was born and left the hospital. His mom moved out when he was 18 months old. So I gave him my cake room to grow in. I will keep your pictures so that I can do that when I get my room back. In 20 years or so.....
so jealous, I was just thrilled to start hanging my character/shape pans from the wall in a closet (picture hangers work well) to stop stepping on them! One son moved out and that is going to be my sewing/craft/cake supply room.. can't believe how many pans I have. Your pics are an inspiration for me to really get moving on organizaing everything.
I had something similar in my old house. I took a wood shelf unit and put it on a wall in the kitchen. One shelf had all my cook books, yearbooks, other cake books, etc. Then I seaprated all my tools and decorations into those plastic shoe box sized tubs. I grouped all my fondant tools, sprinkles, cookie cutters, etc. and labeled them all. I still had my pans in boxes in the garage. When we moved, I had a much bigger island and pantry, so I took over the island cabinet storage for my shoe boxes, turntables, tool caddie and stuff. My hubby is going to build me a cabinet in the garage to neatly store and organize all my pans. Right now, they are in our spare room/soon to be office/guest bedroom. I still have to dig to find the ones i need
. Good luck on organization for everyone! I am so glad I did it because there is nothing worse than trying to find that deco or tool you swear you own, but can't find when you are trying to make a cake. I lived through that too long and ended up with so many duplicates because I would just get mad and go buy a new one!
But, when I finally did organize, i took all my duplicates and made a pretty nice tool caddie for my niece for a Christmas present. She is my decorator in training. ![]()
