I was asked to make a cake for my grandmother's 90th birthday party. Asked today, party is Sunday. Chocolate was requested. I haven't experimented yet with any chocolate cake recipes. I'm looking for something dark and rich and moist that can be stacked. What have ya'll got??? It could be scratch or an extender. What have you tried that you really love. I want to WOW my family with this cake. I need your tried and true. I tried searching first but I don't have time to sift through 1,000 posts!!! Thank you!!!

How many people do you need to feed?
I found a good recipe that is actually a brownie is using the Ghirardelli brownie mix and then putting a fudge filling inbetween and then frost with chocolate icing.
Or Collette Peters has one thats really good that you put hot coffee into and it really brings out the chocolate taste. If you want it, PM me and I will give it to you.

I have used the dark chocolate cake recipe found here on CC. Lot's of raves. It is dark and sturdy. And, most of all, tastes so great since you add melted dark chocolate!!! My kids usually just eat frosting, but they eat this one by itself. I also agree that the ultimate butter choc. cake described before is also amazing!!! good luck!

I use any chocolate cak mix(usually devil's) mix it as per box then add....
extra egg
cup sugar
cup of flour
cup and a half of sour cream
vanilla or any other flavour that suits your cake
ts salt
mix all together and lastly add a pouch of chocolate pudding mix
This cake turns out so yummy. I've had so many compliments when I make it. I really recomend it.

My fav (because its super easy, dense, and yummy) is a boxed devils food cake with the cake mix extender (recipe on CC); I always use yogurt instead of sour cream. Always get rave reviews stating 'this cake is sooo moist!"

I've used the Chocolate version of WASC and had many compliments!! I'm not a chocolate person (my son is allergic to it so we don't have it around often) so I don't discern all the different chocolate flavors. But some of our friends are chocolate connoisseurs and they love it!.

I ALWAYS use Betty Crocker Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix, 1 small package of Jello Brand Chocolate Fudge instant pudding mix, 1 1/4 cup whole milk, 1/2 cup canola oil, 4 eggs and a few squirts of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. I am always being told that my chocolate cake is the best people have tasted. Easy, dense, moist.....what more can you ask for!

Good luck choosing your recipe....there are so many options available.

chqtpi, I made the fudge cake for a wedding cake and then used leftover batter to make a small one for us. I found it dry around the edges in the wedding cakes. And not as moist as I would have thought in the small cake. Do you think maybe I cooked it too long?

oh..well..i admit it...i cheated....

lorrieg---yours may have turned out differently because you did something that most people do....you followed directions icon_smile.gif

I on the other hand, was half way thru making the recipe when I realized I didnt have any cocoa powder....so I improved (I have done this alot...thats probably why we have had quite our fair share of cereal for dinnericon_smile.gif I used a box of chocolate pudding mix and added 1/4 cup extra buttermilk. It came out really really moist...not to mention that I used the cupcake filling by Melvira (that you can find on here) to fill it and frosted it with coffee creamer frosting (used white chocolate raspberry creamer) it came out really yummy....

**that probably should have been my first posticon_smile.gif

best of luck!
