What Do You Think Of My Roses?

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I used 1/2 fondant and 1/2 gum paste...both from Wilton. I didn't use a cone as a base. I just flattened out a petal and rolled it to use as the base. This works so much better for me and I don't have to wait for the center to dry before making the other petals!
Your roses are just gorgeous!! They look so real!!!
So you're from Ohio?? Do you still watch the OSU football games in Virginia? ![]()
They are very pretty... but can I offer some advice - not that I'm any expert? When working with layers of petals... remember the following...
layer 1 : 1 petal
layer 2 : 3 petals
layer 3 : 5 petals
layer 4 : 7 petals (continue on if you want bigger roses)
Always work in odd numbers and it will always look balanced.
The leaves look perfect.

PS: hope this didn't sound too critical...
I'm not very good at any roses so I guess my input is no good but I will say they look like what they are supposed to look like, they look very nice to me I would be proud of these roses if they were my roses.

Thanks! Of course I watch OSU football. I may be a former buckeye, but no one's EVER a former OSU football fan! ![]()
Silly me ... I should have known!!
Aren't the Bucks on fire this year?!?! It's soooo exciting!!! Columbus is just crazy this time of year!!! ![]()
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I have a lot of practicing to do yet, but I'm very pleased with these roses.
Feefs, thanks for your constructive comments. I have tried this method, but I have trouble with it. It seems like my flowers always turn out looking "crowded".
Maybe my leaves are too large. I'll try again!
Has anyone every used the Chocopan to make roses? I saw them in a old issue of ACD and I couldn't believe how beautiful they looked. It looks like you can roll it very thin which makes the roses look real. ![]()

Thanks for the compliment. The name just came to me. I wanted something that would play on the cakes and candies I made, thus the "Sweet" part. Then I though that birthdays, wedding, etc. are occasions of which you want to have good memories, thus the "Memories" part.
Silly me ... I should have known!!
Oh yeah!!! Our boys are hot this year! We're gonna kick the snot out of Michigan (AGAIN)! Tee hee! ![]()
I love the roses. They look great and very real. I love the color it looks natural. Good luck on the transition to full time. Isn't crazy how our hobby can turns into a career.

I guess there are as many ways to make roses as there are members here, but I just wanted to say I use a different method for the number of petals. th first row that wraps the base is 1 petal. second row is 2 petals. third is 3 . . . and so on.
At the end of the day though, it only matters if whatever technique you find works for you - so you're well on your way.

Thanks for the comment. I agree that everyone should use whatever method works for them and produces a flower that is pleasing to the eye. Real roses don't seem inclined to follow the 1-3-5-7 rule! Your roses are lovely. ![]()
They are the prettiest roses I've ever seen. They look so real. Boy, I wish I had your talent.
Sincerely,Flowerpot
Thanks Flowerpot! I'm sure you have the talent. You just need to practice. That's what cake decorating is all about. You learn a technique and practice, practice, practice until sometimes you think your hands will fall off!!
I guess the other thing is that you have to love doing it, and I do.
