Yeah, you can use that printer.... according to Kopy Kake you can buy the tanks for that printer from them.

That printer is listed on Kopykake's website. You can always call them in the morning and ask for certain.

Well of course, dummy me had purchased the Canon IP4200 and KopyKake says they do not have ink for it.

What could be the difference? If it takes 5 tanks and they made ink for the IP4000, then why not the 4200.

So I have a printer but cant use it.

Does anyone have the IP4200 and uses it for edible images? I think I read one time if it takes five cartridges then it will work.

Thanks

Hi Crystalscakes5. I just recently went through a couple of miserable weeks trying to get inks for the IP4200. I'd had the 3000 which refused to work, and Canon nicely replaced it, but they sent me the 4200 instead. Not good, since I already had all the stuff for the 3000.

Then I have to order more inks, right, but that one isn't listed as cartridges being available, but on the telephone I was told that they did, so I order and get the new inks, and they don't fit! Turns out they sent me the wrong ones, so they send me another set, but with this one I have to remove the little green chips on the original (regular ink) cartridges that came with the printer, and attach them to the edible ink cartridges in order for these to work on my printer.

Well, after lots of bad language, and struggling, I got the chips re-attached (by using double-sided tape as recommended by person at KK) I was finally able to use my printer!

Actually, the purpose of this long explanation is to say it can be done, and since you already have your printer, you may want to try it. It can be done, one of those been there/done that. KK may eventually (hopefully) get the right cartridges for the 4200, since so many of the other Canon printers have been discontinued...we can only hope. Janice

PS through all of this the folks at KK were very nice, and did their best to help me.

Janice,
Thank you so much for your response. Sounds like you have troubles around every corner just like me.

Well I am so glad to hear you got it all worked out.
And from what you posted, my problem just got a little worse.
I purchased mine from Ebay and alot of people selling them buy them and take the ink out and then put them for sale on Ebay.

Well, mine did not come with any ink, so I dont have the original tanks to get the chips from.

I guess it looks like I will have to wait until they make the right tanks to fit.

Thanks for the info.

Wow, I hadn't though about not getting inks along with the printer! Looks like you and I (and probably a lot of other unknowing folks) will have to just wait and hope that they get the cartridges for the 4200. Yes, by the time I finally printed something, I sent everyone on my address list an email announcing the event (they had all heard about my difficulties!)

Have you checked on eBay for the original inks, it might be worth it to get them if they were cheap enough.

I started to send you a PM, but thought if everybody reads these edible image posts like I do, reading this might help them too.

Ok Thanks. Have you asked KK about how long it may be for the new ink tank additions?

No, I haven't asked about that, but a few days after I ordered and got the wrong thing, I looked at the website and they had a notice saying that they didn't have those cartridges (it was not there when I looked for the ones I needed) but were working on getting them in the future. I haven't been back to check, but evidently they still don't have them.

This does make it difficult for anyone trying to get a printer set up to do the images at this time. My best advice is to check and make sure the inks are available before you invest in a printer, which might mean waiting for a while. HTH Janice

Well I have already invested in the printer.
I actually won it on Ebay for like 60.00 with shipping.

So not too much a loss, I will keep waiting.

Thanks

I have the IP Pixma 4200, too and I bought the cartridges from KK in May '06. I had BIG problems getting the ink cartridges to work correctly. I will say that Kopykake has been extremely helpful, but I still find it frustrating. If you want them to sell you the cartridges for the 4200, I believe you have to call them because the last time I checked, they weren't listed on their website. Sorry if I'm being redundant ... but what you have to do is pop the chips off of the Canon non-edible cartridges and use double-sided tape to stick them onto the Kopykake edible cartridges. This drove me crazy because only 2 of the 5 BRAND NEW chips worked on my edible cartridges! So I ran to Office Depot that night and spent another $45 on Canon non-edible cartridges JUST so I could get the chips off of them. Well, only ONE of those worked. Now, I used to be a computer programmer and think I should have gotten ALL five of them to work the first time. I couldn't spend anymore money, so I called KK in despair and they very kindly & promptly sent me two chips that they knew worked. Finally, all cartridges work. Apparently I'm the ONLY one who has had this problem, because that's what KK told me. I find that hard to believe because I know I didn't damage those chips ... I believe there's something else going on with them. Misery loves company - so please let me know if anyone else has had these or similarly frustrating problems w/the cartridges.

No, you aren't the only one...if you go back about 6 posts, you will see an extended explanation of my recent experiences with the 4200, replacing chips, etc. Janice
