I want to make some fall leaves to go on a cake, but I have never done it. I want them to be edible, but I don't want to use MMF. I was thinking about using white candy melts and trying to find a leaf mold and then painting them with color and luster dust. My question is, am I missing a much easier way to do this?? Also, do they make a "fallish" color luster dust combo, or do I have to buy them individually, and if so, what colors would be good?

My teacher said that you could paint a rose leaf with candy melts and then peel off the leaf but I am not sure about fall leaves..I guess if you found out they were not poisonous or had spray on them, it might be OK.. I saw leaf candy molds at a store this weekend..so they are around.

I've seen this done with maple leaves as well.

You could also find a leave pattern online and do a chocolate transfer over it.

Just make sure when you paint on the leaves that the cholcolate is thick enough and be so very careful, my first chocolate leaves were beautiful until I tried to peal them off and use them, I underestimated the heat of my own hands! lol! Refridgerate them up until you are ready to use them and even then I would only take a few out at a time! Good luck!

You could also try rice paper leaves, colored with edible ink. They're safe, easy and very pretty. There are lots of examples (templets) on MicroSoft clip art.

I was going to be adding some to a birthday cake for my mom, and instead of MMF (she likes the look of it) I will be using the rolled buttercream - better tasting!
