Ok, well I had my first cake tasting this weekend!! It went well. I made 5 different flavors of cakes, 3 frostings and 5 fillings. A LOT of work! Luckily, I have the left overs already going to other cakes. Anyway, I was looking for a good way to make the WASC strawberry version. I couldn't really find one that I liked, so I just came up w/ my own. It was delicious! In case anyone cares, here is what I did:
I made the WASC w/ all of the same ingredients as usual, except for the water. I had a pint of frozen strawberries (not sweetened or in syrup) that I thawed and reserved the juice. I took that juice and added Jumex strawberry nectar until it made the 1 1/3c. that I needed (I only made 1/2 of the regular recipe) I then cut up about 1/2 cup of the strawberries and added them to the batter at the end, and one capful of Lorann's strawberry flavored oil. I wanted something that wasn't that PINK color of the cake mix, and something not so artificial tasting. It was yummy! Hope this helps someone else. ![]()

Thanks, Molly!
I am new to American-style cakes (I'm in Australia) and have been experimenting with some of the AMAZING recipes and tips I've found on this site.
Just tried my first WASC this weekend - lovely cake, but a little bland - we don't have the range (and, possibly, the quality) of flavourings that you have ![]()

Your version sounds delicious.... Back to the kitchen ![]()
I, too, am in search of a great strawberry version. Where might one find the strawberry nectar? I'd love to give your recipe a try.
What do you think about using a strawberry daiquiri mix liquid? The good ones have real strawberries in them.
Sounds like you were VERY busy. ![]()
Using strawberry nectar is a great idea. (Now I want to make a peach nectar WASC cake...)
Here's an expanded flavors version of the WASC cake recipe:

You can use liquor/liqueur, strawberrie/raspberries, berry or lemon juice, white chocolate and more.
