I see many cupcake cakes on here and I am wondering which way is the easiest to bake them so it looks like one uniform cake? Do you use the muffin pan and put it inside of a regular pan and overflow the batter to fill the top? Or is it just easier to bake them separately and attach with frosting?
Nope, you bake them like regular cupcakes and then when they are done you put them in the shape you want and ice right across the top of all of them. the icing doesn't fall through the cracks don't worry. : )
I saw on a tutorial on another site (that linked through the forums) where she placed a cutting board or something on the baked cupcakes so that they were of even height. You might try searching the forums for this topic. I'll bet you'll run across it.
I make them by baking regular cupcakes and arranging them on a cake board and icing as as one cake. I use an ice cream scoop to insure that the cupcakes come out the same size.
Here are instructions on how to make a cupcake cake: http://members.nuvox.net/~zt.proicer/message/saved/cupcakes.html
Thanks for the advice. I just talked to my cousin and she tried to do a regular rectangle shape and she put the cupcake pan inside of a pyrex and overflowed the batter so that it covered the top of the cupcake pan with a thin layer, the pyrex kept the shape and she said it turned out fine. I think that might be easier to ice...??? but you would have to cut the cupcakes apart....?? I might have to try this out....
