Help! Need Quick Cake Idea For Get Well

My FIL in having heart surgery tomorrow. I need an idea for a cheerful cake. I am baking 8" rounds right now but will have to decorate with a 2 year old and 6 month old needing attention- DH is at work. The cake will have to travel 3 hours. You all always have so many wonderful ideas to help those in need.
It sorta depends on how he himself is feeling about it..
I think he just wants to be himself again. He is the type of man who loves to get up early and go, go, go all day. He loves to build and has had no energy since this started about 10 days ago. Thanks for your ideas.
Too bad you couldn't do a cake that resembles the game "Operation" -maybe it would get him to smile/laugh
