Hi - 2 questions - I am new to using fondunt and I made the MMF version and attempted to make bows - I did the strips, stuck them together at the ends and layed them on there side for 24 hrs prior to putting the bow together - the "loops" will not get firm enought and end up loosing there shap - should I have used a regular fondunt rec. rather thean the MMF - is the MMF only for the top of the cake and not for making details?

Also - if I have a three tiered round cake do I have to use dowels to secure? I would also love to learn how to make a 3 teired cake that has each layer at a diff angle - like they do for say a jack in a box tpe cake - is there any site that has good instructions on how to do something like this - sorry so lengthly and for the spelling - love to bake and cook but stink at typing!

I have made a bow out of mmf and had no problems. Did you lay the bows on their sides to let them dry? Some people even put tubing in them to hold their shape while drying - you might try that. You can use MMF to make decor or accents for the cake. Also, the cake you are interested in is usually called a topsy turvy cake - there is a tutorial here.

I always use MMF for my bows and it dries hard as can be. It sounds like they need more time? How thick are they? If you have a portable fan or something it might help to set that over them and get some air moving around them.

Do you add anything to the MMF to make it harden or are you just using the regular recipe for the MMF?

i recently did this and if it is at all humid you have problems. i had dried mine for 2 weeks and still weren't real hard. I found drying on the dowel rod was easier than their sides. I also ended up putting in a oven for a while, this got it pretty hard and has even stayed together 2 weeks after I was done. Now I put in oven after putting together, but i had to use cotton balls to keep loops in there position. But I ended up with little fuzzies that i had to pick off. I did have to redue some and used only gumpaste, and this dried hard in a couple days. I did uses gum tex to my fondant, but did not seem to help alot. recommend plan way in advance when making a bow.

BUT I can email it to you.
PM me if you like...
It is EASY to make.
