OK, friends, I dragged myself away from here long enough to take a shower - mistake number 1..When I returned to husband and TV in living room, I found our Siberian husky reclining on the floor and the floor COVERED in huge dark brown spots...that #$&^^$$@)()*^%$ dog got a devil's food cake mix out of my spare "pantry", opened it, and spread it through two rooms! icon_evil.gif I've run the sweeper, but it won't come up, especially the places she licked it in really, really well. I'll borrow our carpet steam cleaner tomorrow. Please, please help - any suggestions to get this awful mess out, short of replacing the carpet in the entire house? icon_mad.gif (Oh, and to make matters worse, last night our DGD'Ss giant schnauzer puppy got a pound of butter off the counter and ate it, wrappers and all - it was the last I had to make 8 dozen cookies for this morning! At 10:00 at night, I couldn't go to the store because 4 year old was asleep! Thank you, Lord, that I had one big box of brownie mix in the cupboard and several dozen choc. chip cookies in the freezer!) Of course, he was sick in his kennel and what an obnoxious mess outside...Right now, I don't know whether to laugh, cry, drink, or call the dog catcher! icon_cry.gificon_evil.gificon_cry.gificon_evil.gif And I'm TIRED - I needed to go to bed - big sheet cake to do tomorrow ...Can someone please help - you've always come through before - I'm counting on you guys!!!!! And, thanks for listening to me whine! icon_twisted.gif Thanks again - PAT icon_redface.gif

icon_surprised.gif So...this doesn't just happen in my house! My dog stole 4 sticks of butter off the counter - wrappers and all! Then she dug into the garbage for the disposed frosting bags...... and proceeded to lick the toothpicks... and grind the color that was on the toothpicks into the carpet...

So I have 2 huge stains... orange & black ( Harley cake!! icon_mad.gif ) Good luck, I would think a steamer would get out cake mix since I don't think it stains.... icon_smile.gif

I don't have any tips for you but isn't it just like a man to be sitting watching TV and not notice that the dog got into something? It's like when I had my second child, the other was 4 and had had a thing of flour he'd been driving trucks in for WEEKS with no problems, it ended up all over the house while my husband and brother slept through it. icon_confused.gif

Oh NO, I feel so horrible for you. My hubby does flooring as one of his many jobs, he had just finished laying a light colored carpet down for a client when one of their kids had stepped on lipstick and tracked it everywhere. He loves a product called "Spot shot" they sell it at Lowes and Home Depot. Not sure where else but it has orange or red lettering on the can. If it can get out lipstick it should work on cake mix. Hope that helps.

I agree!! Spot Shot works like a dream!! icon_biggrin.gif
It took out the chocolate stains in our carpet just fine! And i know that it also works well on older stains. I think OxyClean would work well too.

The Oxy Clean took feces from our German Shepherd Cross out of our almost white carpet. YOu might have to do it twice but it'sworth it! Goodluck!

BEFORE you steam clean, do a google search for chocolate stain removal. I don't recall right now, but I know there are some stains that you will set by using hot water. With four kids here, I can tell you that the one that gives me the MOST trouble is chocolate milk!

I've given up on carpet stains for now, waiting for hardwoods. But, I did recently have a huge dog vomit stain. I used Woolite carpet cleaner that has the duel chambers (one is an oxy cleaner) and that sutff ROCKS! I proceeded to use it on our denim couch that is so severely stained that nothing gets it clean and it was coming clean. I plan on buying more since I used it up on the couch.

Ok I've got ya beat! My boyfriend and I just had cream colored carpet installed about two weeks ago all throughout the house. About a week ago, he decided to let our German Shepard into the house to play. No big deal...right?

Well.....I went to the store to get some cake mixes. I get home, and my boyfriend is asleep on the couch. I unload the cake mixes and go to the bedroom to put my shoes away. That's when I see it. The dog has gotten the bowl of chocolate buttercream that I made before I left and is eating it in the middle of our bed. There was chocolate all over the new carpet, all over the bed, the sheets, the pillows, the dog, everything.

So not only do I have a huge chocolatey mess to clean up, but it was a huge chocolatey GREASY mess ON MY NEW CARPET!!!

I had to use Spray N Wash in our steam cleaner to get the mess out of the carpet. (Didn't completely come out, but worked better than expected.) Since then, the dog is not allowed inside, and my BF says that I'm not allowed to cook anything except dinner.

Yeah right....like that'll last very long....Hee Hee...

I would try oxy clean as well. I used it just this week on my carpet. I noticed that a stain from spilt soda (the dog's tail knocked it over on the floor). The stain was from a few weeks ago that I thought I had gotten out. I've been really busy so I guess I didn't notice that it was still there. Anyway I used the spray oxyclean for laundry on it and then sucked it up with my little green machine (I didn't use the cleaner from the little green machine this time, I just used it to suck up the oxyclean and the stain). Worked wonders.
I highly reccomend the little green machine for anyone with a child or a pet. It's paid for itself several times over in just the last couple of months by saving the carpet again and again!

About 2 years ago, I had made about 80 roses for a wedding and had them on them on little squares of waxed paper all on cookie sheets in my office. I had closed the door to my office before going to my sisters to babysit my nieces all night while my sister was at work. The first thing in the morning, my husband calls and slowly he starts saying ...."the dog..."....and I think he's going to tell me that something happened to the dog and he's dead or something. Instead he says....."the dog.....I went in your office and left the door open by mistake.....and the dog ate 37 of your roses". Now, I must really love my dog because the first thing I did was ask if the dog was ok. But really, can you imagine??? A dog eating 37 buttercream roses and not even getting sick??? Thank you GOD!!!!

He's never touched anything before, cake or icing or whatever I've cooked or baked. In fact, we had my sister-in-law's 15 year old little dog here for a week and he keeps dry food in his little dish all day long. Our dog (lab mix) walked over to the dish and I told him "no, not for doggies!"...which we tell him for people food...and he never touched the other dog's food once.....guess he has a sweet tooth!!!

Oh my gosh I can't help you but I'm so sorry! My dog is a small one - can't really get into the garbage - but she's gotten into plenty! She once ate an entire bag of york peppermint patties - thank God she didn't die! (although I know my mom wanted to kill her) - chocolate is sooooooo bad for dogs! I freaked out. She's also eaten q-tips out of my garbage can - used ones - yep, nasty........ so at least your dogs are eating something TASTY! I think I do remember my dog getting into some dried cake mix once..... hmm can't remember if she got it on the carpet though.... I'm gonna guess she kept it on the hardwood floor - OH and once she got into SUSHI! Not meat sushi - vegetarian sushi!??? HUH?? icon_eek.gificon_confused.gif It is amazing what interests dogs and what they will - and won't eat........

Try white vinegar on the spot. Mix with a bit of water and saturate the carpet, put a towel over it and let it sit for a while (30 mins or so). That might get it up, or help to. It won't hurt the carpet.

Right after Valentines Day, our Golden retriever Maverick at 2 Cadbury bars while we were out of the house for an hour. I found just a scrap of the label which tipped me off. It was 9 oz. of chocolate! I freaked out and called every vet I could get ahold of (it was Sunday of course) and finnaly found out that amound wouldn't kill him but would make him sick. He looked a bit green for a day but nothing else! I can't imagine why he didn't, I'd get sick if I at that much chocolate that quickly!!

I belong to this company called Melaleuca. (Melaleuca is the scientific name for tea tree oil...first used widely in Australia). It sells all kinds of natural products that are made with Melaleuca oil in it. They have a product called Sol-U-Mel. It is expensive, but very, very potent. It can get pretty much anything out of anything. I have used it for freezie-pop, all matters pertaining to dog (poop, pee) and cat (yack)...sorry so graphic icon_smile.gif, mud, blood, chocolate, coffee, dye, pen, paint....you name it. If you want to read more about it you can go to their website, melaleuca.com (big surprise, right?!) I like to use it because you don't have to run away from the fumes and it won't make the kids or pets sick. I have used other, name brand cleaners which also work well, but they are also fairly toxic. My kids eat stuff off the floor (dispite my pleading to just throw out the potato chip...) and I would hate for something to happen to them. It is probably far fetched, but since my natural product kicks butt...I'm gonna stick with it.

Years ago, DH and I came home to find little bits of plastic all over the floor and our beagle racing around the room. He had gotten into a baggie of chocolate covered expresso beans and eaten every one. That was one hyper dog! Fortunately no ill effects!

Oh my, oh my - if I weren't laughing i'd be crying!!!!! You guys are the BEST! icon_cool.gif I had some Spot Shot and tried that; made some progress. The double-barreled Resolve for carpet worked less well - I have some for laundry so I'll try that. Think I'll go try some vinegar on one of the spots. I can't find melaleuca.com - I'll try to Google it. It sounds like a good alternative. At least I have plenty of spots to use as tests!! icon_cry.gif This same husky, around Christmas time, ate a tube of Wilton red icing in the sunroom - then a few months later a bag of orange candy melts (orange candy vomit is tougher to get out than red icing, in case you ever need to know!) - not to mention finding a bottle of strong prescription pain pills chewed on the floor. Not knowing how many she might have eaten, it was off to the vet for total evacuation, then they had to go to several places around Atlanta to find the IV "reversing agent" to give her. And we still have both her and the puppy - are we nuts or what??? From now on all doors in the house will remain closed, locked, and shuttered! Any more ideas are welcome, or other great (awful) dog stories, too! Thanks always, PAT

OxyClean and Spot Shot--I am never without them.

Buy the powdered OxyClean--Sprinkle some of the powder directly on the spot, then pour some hot water over it--not a lot. Then use your fingers and work it back and forth--don't use a lot of pressure. Dab it up with paper towels. May have to do it a couple of times, but it always works for me.

Dog had chewed a pen under the bed and we ddn't find it for months until we rearranged the bedroom. Husband sprayed it with Spot Shot and it became a LARGE purple stain. Went an bought OxyClean at Walmart. WOrked like a dream. Even used it on old carpet stains and it took them all out.

Good Luck

Pampers wetwipes!!!

They've cleaned formula off of furniture & carpet and where my boys are older now, I still keep them around cuz they're so handy.

Oh, btw.....can't you just blame this on dh or something and make him clean it up?!

That's an original idea, mmdd - I'm going to try it right now!!! Then, after bell rehearsal, I'll get some powdered OxyClean. I can remember trying to use it to clean grout in our white tile bathroom floor and it didn't work well; just couldn't get the right mixture. Mix together two tablespoons of Tide HE, three tablespoons of vinegar and one quart of warm water. Work into the stain and blot dry. Use this when all else fails.

1. Buy Kids and Pets- that stuff works like a charm at gettin out anything!
2. Take your Sibe to a trainer...yes, I'm serious. Both of my Sibes learned a long time ago and nobody likes a theif! But first, if he ate any of the mix, get him to a vet ASAP. Chocolate and other toxins lurk in cake mix and can be fatal to dogs.
3. If you really, really, really, want to give your doggie a new home, I have two Sibes already and would love another!

The cleaning lady at work swears by scrubbing bubbles for the bathroom on spots on the carpet. As a last resort, you could always try that. She says she totally saturates the stain and lets it sit for 5 minutes, then scrubs with a semi stiff brush.

I just want to caution against Spray and Wash on the carpet. When DS was a toddler, someone mentioned that Spray N Wash got milk/juice stains out of the carpet. I spot cleaned the whole carpet - it was beige. It got out spots that the carpet cleaning machine left behind. Worked great!, but about six months later the weather got warmer and the spots that I had cleaned bleached out. icon_eek.gif There were light spots ALL OVER the carpet!! We had to replace the whole thing and the carpet was only 2 years old. tapedshut.gif So please be careful when using cleaners not meant for carpets.

A) Chocolate brownie or cake mix can be toxic to dogs . . . if your dog has an vomitting, diarrhea, lethargy or bloating its time to get him/her to the vet ASAP. At the emergency pet clinic I work at, we just spent Tuesday night pumping the stomach of a very sick dalmation who ate 2 boxes of brownie mix. (Not fun . . . and super expensive for his owner.)

B) Call a carpet cleaning company like Chem Dry to get your spot out . . . they always work wonders around here. Our carpet guy just told me to use baby wipes to clean up messes on the carpet. (Most cleaners have a really high or really low ph level . . . and if you use the wrong one on a stain it just sets teh stain in permanently.) Baby wipes are neutral enough to get out most stains!

Good luck!
