Dropstring Tips From Experienced Please!

I used medium frosting with piping gel... but as you can see in my photo they just weren't elegant, in fact a bit diseased. icon_eek.gif I would appreciate any tricks you might have to make them lovely.

I think they look nice and even! I saw your cake yesterday and really liked the string work you did. What part don't you like?

If you want a more delicate look you might try a smaller tip. I used to practice my icing consistency on my index finger, holding it out like it would be the side of the cake , if that makes sense. string work takes some practice but for me once you squeeze the bag I pull out a little and let the icing fall making the loop size you need, I then stop squeezing and attach the string to my next place. It is consistency in the squeeze, icing and the loop fall. I hope I made sense. It just takes practice. I think your cake looks pretty good, your top tier is very consistent, on the bottom, trying to do 3 strings takes a little more work to get consistent, however it looks pretty good. Keep up the good work. Buttercream work can be a challenge.
