you might want to add a tablespoon or so of flour to absorb the extra water in the margerine. The flour will also help with crusting too. just cream the flour into the margerine before you add your sugar or other ingredients.

Margarine has a lot of water in it. My experience with it has been that it does not act like butter. And once it gets warm it never sets back up. I have not used it in buttercream, but have accidently left a tub of margarine on the counter overnight and it was not ever the same. Kinda lumpy and wanted to separate.

Do you have any Crisco?

Sorry never tried it but I think just from the thoughtof it, it would not work to well, country crock is quite abit softer than the butter. it is more of a oil. I will have to keep an eye out though on this post to see who knows for sure. Sorry.

Hmm..You might be able to pull it off. If anything it just might get as stiff as with butter. Since when butter get cold it gets hard. Where as margerine stays kind of semi soft. You could always try a small batch. Well, here is a bump at least.

I wouldn't suggest using it.

As another poster said, that stuff is full of water.

You can use an all crisco recipe for crusting buttercream. Don't know if that's an option, but just wanted to throw that out there.

I agree that I don't think I would try it. I definitely would go with an all-Crisco recipe!

Not a good idea, my mom used to use margarine for her buttercream and it was always supersweet and you can taste the margarine. This was back when everyone thought that margarine was better for you than butter. icon_lol.gif

hmm... I know this is late but all I use in my buttercream is country crock, it works just fine for me and crusts well.
And everyone loves the taste of it!!

Okay....Don't anyone throw cake balls at me, Imageicon_lol.gif but I love margarine in my buttercream. I think it tastes way better than butter. I use it all the time and don't have any problems out of it. It crusts well....the only thing is it's more yellow than with butter...but a little violet coloring takes care of that. thumbs_up.gif

If you have some Butter Flavoring you could add it into the all Crisco recipe.

good morning, although it should be good night for me!
My 19 month old son seems to have his days and nights mixed up!
I can not get him to go to sleep until around this time every night!

Thanks. My mom and dad called me boober when I was little and collect frogs, so that's where I got the name.

I am with the margarine people too! I have never made buttercream with it but I use an all shortening recipe for mine because I think butter is nasty. Actually if you were going to make me a cake you could leave out the frosting completely and just plop some pudding or whip cream on it.

I have a 20 month old little girl...she just woke up. She has always slept good for me at night....Now my youngest son is a different story!! He is 10 and I don't think he has ever slept a full nights sleep. icon_surprised.gif
