hi everyone,

with the past two cakes I've done and colored the BC (with Wilton color), I've had problems. When the cake is iced and I take it out of the fridge to do the Viva method, there are some spots on the icing where the color is a bit darker. ??? Usually in spots where there's more icing...like I didn't smooth it enough. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do in the future?

thanks!

I had problems with Wilton color separating (darker in some areas and lighter in others), so I switched to Americolor. I think they have consistant smooth color.

I agree that it is the Wilton color. I had a cake with violet icing do this yesterday - I have also really had a problem with the Wilton brown. After reading on the boards for the last few years and now this happening yesterday, I am placing my Americolor order tonight!

okay, good to know. I only have the Americolor red, but have not tried to frost the entire cake with it. Made me feel really good when my DH said it looked like the cake was tie-dyed!! icon_surprised.gif It is the fall cake in my photos.

thanks.
