My neighbour has asked me to make an 11 x 15 cake (golf theme) for her husband's 50th birthday. I've made 11 x 15s before but never charged for them because they were for family, so I have no idea how much to charge. I've been sort of flip-flopping in my mind over what I should charge. Does $45 (I live in Canada so this is Canadian funds) sound reasonable? Too much? Too little? I'm using cake mixes, a filling, and buttercream icing. Any help would be greatly appreciate! Thank you.
Let's see...an 11 x 15 is a half sheet, right?
I start my half sheets at $45. I charge extra for any details (like a golf theme) based on time required.
I'm doing a 1/2 sheet today with a fondant ribbon, gumpaste bow, and gumpaste ballerina and I'm charging $65.00.
Remember...if it's a cake that people can't just run to the store and get...charge for your time! After all, the reason people are coming to you is because you do original work.
Disclaimer: if you are a beginner and not that skilled then you shouldn't charge that much. So $45 would be fine.
