Okay, so no one ever told me that baking was dangerous but last night I discovered that it is. I got my fingers caught in the beaters of my mixer. Ouch, doesn't describe the pain I was in. It sliced 2 of my fingers and I was sure it had broken one of them. Thank goodness it wasn't a high-pwered mixer or it would've taken my finger clean off.
Only me. This could only happen to me.
I go today to get it X-rayed. I am so stupid. I joked w/my SIL about the icing. I told her not to be afraid of eating the cake tomorrow b/c no blood had flown into the cake icing.
She laughed.

OMG! You poor thing! I am so sorry to hear that happened.
I hope they gave you some good pain medication!

You poor thing! And just to make you feel better, my best friend once got her fingers caught in a hand held mixer and had to call her husband to come turn it off and help her get her finger out! We teased her for the longest time about that one. So, I'll bet you're just the first to admit to it happening. I know it has happened to others. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

My beater is no longer usable. It is bend and twisted! I'm so embarassed. My fly. probably won't let me live it down.

I was tryimg to put the beater into the mixer to use it. So my fingers were wrapped around the beater with one hand. The other hand was on the mixer to steady it. This hand slipped and hit the on/off switch. It turned on and caught my fingers in it.
LESSON LEARNED: LEAVE APPLIANCES/TOOLS/ANYTHING ELECTRIC UNPLUGGED WHILE WORKING ON THEM.
Duh? Who didn't know that. Lesson Learned the hard way. ***sigh***
Believe me, I wouldn't do that again.

OMG that's awful glad you didnt lose your fingers. ANd sorry about the pain. >shudders<
Hope it heals quickly.
Was LOLing a bit, not at the accident but at the part where you told your SIL to relax and eat the cake....was expecting to see finger, not blood. lol,. I know sorry not laughing at you. I'm thinkin of the stories I've heard of people finding fingers in theri food. You know the restaurant stories where someone is chopping so quickly they dont even notice their finger is missing right away and then the food has already gone out.
It's funny because in all my jobs where we've had safety training, kitchen jobs, plant jobs etc. there is always the rule about lockout procedures, when cleaning something or handling something with moving parts, always unplug first. I've seen some gruesome things so I always do now, but I wonder how many people actually do and are just lucky every day they keep themselves uninjured through luck?

Soory about your fingers. I hope they are better soon. It made mine hurt just reading your post. *HUGZ*

I'm not sure whether I should tell this story but hearing your story gave me pain flashbacks to the time that we were moving house and loading stuff into the car and I had to put something in the boot (trunk) but there were bushes near the car so instead of walking around the car to the other side to put the stuff in I decided I would just kind of reach around and throw it in and rested my hand on the side while I reached around well I closed the boot and locked my fingers in the side of the boot ouch!! and to make things worse my husband was out and I started to panic and had visions of having to call neighbours for help
luckily I remembered I had the key in my pocket but it was in the opposite pocket to my free hand so it was a good couple of minutes before I could get my hand out. Amazingly nothing was broken but they were kind of purple and dented and throbbed with pain for ages.

Youch! Sorry about your fingers. I hope you're doing okay.
I almost did that the other day. Don't feel bad.

Okay, I'm so excited. My finger isn't broken!! Yeah. I really couldn't afford that.
I did my son's b-day cake yesterday. It hurt like hell to decorate it but i was determined. There's a long time that I have been wanting to create Mater. I ended up cracking one of the slices (cuts) on my finger. Gross! B/c I couldn't wear the splint while trying to decorate.
Thanks for all the support.
You gals (and guys) are great.
