I was wondering if I was to make a sports ball out of devil's food and I add the pound cake mix to the batter-will it still look like devils food or should i stick with yellow cake for the 3D part. The customer says her son LOVES chocolate-we are havingan 11 x 15 cake underneath-but I wanted to make sure someone out there has done a 3 D cake in devils food. thanks for any help!!

I have. It was a box mix and yes I added the pound cake to it. To me it tasted fine and I had no complaints from the customer. I did explain it to her so she would understand why adding the pound cake was needed.

I have heard of people using chocolate pound cake to sculpt with so I dont see why you couldn't use it for 3d cakes too, or is that what you meant? icon_rolleyes.gif
Some times I miss the small detailed parts! icon_biggrin.gif
But all in all it should work with devil's food as long as it is a durable recipe not a "fluffier" type cake.

I use the chocaloate pount cake from the Cake Bible from RLB. It is very tasty and dense.

I would put a choc pudding mix in it to help with the flavor - I dont think it would hurt
