Hi

HEEELLLPPP!! I am trying so very hard to do the viva paper towel thing to smooth my buttercream icing, but it's not working! I must be doing something wrong. I keep getting the imprint of the paper onto the cake... if I use anything else (tried wax paper, silicon paper) and they all stick and leave a horrid finish...

Are the VIVA paper towels in the US absolutely ridge free?? I'm starting to stress!

Thanks in advance
FI

Have you tried parchment paper? It works better for me than the Viva towels. Also, make sure your buttercream has really crusted first.

Yes, Viva here in the US is pattern-free. I have heard other people have had luck with parchment paper, wax paper, or just plain printer/copy paper. Make sure your buttercream crusts, and recently I've found it much, much, MUCH better to use a fondant smoother instead of your hand.

Printer/copy paper works great. After your buttercream crusts place the paper over it and rub your hands over it lightly. That should do the trick.
