I am working on my website today, and got to wondering: for those of you who don't have a store front, do you allow pickups, or only do delivery? I was thinking that I didn't really want to do pickups since it would be at my home. Any input?

I do a little of both. If you do mention delivery, you might want to add a delivery charge outside a certain area - say a 15 mile radius or something of where you live.

Good luck on the website!

I do both. it usually depends on who it is. If it is a friend I will deliver. Sometimes I have them picked up at my work because it is easier for them. Others come to the house. It is usually whatever works best at the time.

I prefer delivery for large cakes, but for smaller ones it depends on the customers schedule and mine. But, once that cake leaves me or I leave it, it is no longer my responsibility. I learned here on CC that taking pictures after delivery and set up are a good thing.

I don't have a store front either. I prefer to do deliveries since I don't want everyone coming to my home, but after awhile I did realize that I needed to charge for them ($10 locally if order is under $100, free over that). This has resulted in more pickups, but I just bite the bullet and have them come by. I put a map online, but it is not linked to my web page, I have to send someone the url to get it.

I can not have anyone pick up from my home in the town I live in. I prefer to delivery anything that is over 2 tiers, but for anything smaller I will meet somewhere and give it to them if they do not want to pay for delivery.

I do both...friends and people I know pick up...others I deliver to for a fee. One of the stipulations of the planning board in my town was that my home business not become a traffic nuisance. Plus, I have had numerous issues of people showing up late, or not at all.
