Ok, I need a little feedback from the loyal CC crew... I know you will have some excellent ideas!

Sunday is my first cake booth and I have a bunch of pretty dummy cakes, decorations for the booth, serving ware, flyers, biz cards, etc. but tomorrow (Saturday) is my day to bake up my edible samples, and the question is... what flavors are going to make people's heads reel? I recently read a thread where one of you just did your first one and said "Leave the white cake at home". Excellent advice... but what SHOULD I take? I HAVE to take chocolate... that's just a given. I think I will take the vanilla caramel too, but what other flavors should I take? And how MANY flavors? I don't want to overkill it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your input!! icon_biggrin.gif

Your flavors sound great. How about a french vanilla with red raspberry filling. That and my chocolate are always favorites.

Good luck!

Oh, that sounds really good... but I am going to do non-filled samples for ease. If someone is interested in filling samples, that's how I get 'em back to my place! hahaha!

Ok, how about lemon. I actually just did a wedding cake this past weekend that I attended. Chocolate, french vanilla (both has fillings), but I also had lemon. It was a HUGE hit. Very light, yet very lemony. Just a thought.

Now that's a great idea!! Tingle their palate!! icon_wink.gif

Since it's fall I thought spice might be appropriate... do you think that's a bad idea?

No, spice would be a nice one. Or, you could do a light verson of carrot without any nuts or raisins.

Just to kind of wrap this thread up, I thought I would tell you that I made chocolate with almond BC, vanilla caramel with van. carm. BC, spice with cinammon BC, and coconut with coconut creme BC. They were all really good. And sure enough... about every fifth person said, "Do you have white?" UGH!!!! And I thought leaving the white at home was a good idea. I guess I just had a different crowd than she did! icon_rolleyes.gif

I have my first trade show experience coming up at the end of the month.
I have a booth reserved at our local annual home show. There is a store in town called baby junction who reserved an entire aisle for children's items. There will be 5 birthday party providers and I am the only baker. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an effective trade show. I have ordered plastic cake lifters with my logo and name on them as well as plastic neon coloured stadium cups to give out to the kids.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprecited!!!

I have a bunch of pics of the cakes I displayed, but I ended up not taking a pic of the table. I don't know why. I had every intention of doing so, I guess I just had a lot on my mind. Had the camera in my purse.

One thing that I did to show versatility was take several dozen sugar cookies and had about 10 icing bags made up with all different colors in them, then had all my tips, dragees, sprinkles, cake sparkles, etc. and I let people come over and have me decorate a cookie how they wanted it. Just to show techniques, and stuff. It was a HUGE hit!! People were asking for different flowers, their favorite sports team, etc. It went over really well!

Love the idea of a personally decorated cookie! If you want to showcase cakes though, why not make a bunch of mini cupcakes and then decorate them to order. I'd have some 'generic' ones made up already, in case you get swamped with a crowd. You want everyone to walk away with a taste of your goodies.

I considered cupcakes, but with all the cake I was taking, cookies just seemed like a better idea. And I was right... I left the place with a bunch of leftover cake... but people were fighting over the last cookie. (I make really good cookies!!) And this wasn't a bridal expo type situation where I just wanted to show cakes. I wanted to advertise all the products I make and sell. Cookies and cookie bouquets are one of my top sellers right now! If it had been a bridal show I definitely would have done cupcakes! I did have a tray of already decorated ones, and those went quickly too, but people were really loving the 'you-choose' version!!

Wow!! The area where I live must be very behind the times or maybe its me, but I never hear of any kind of functions that you all mention.

Where do you guys find out about trade shows, bridal shows and such.

Is it the area that you all live in do alot of stuff like that?

Thanks
