I just found out the theme for the Kansas state fair wedding cake compitition and I am totally stumped. The theme is "Making Memories With Music" This is my first year entering and I really want to make a splash but come on I can't carry a tune in a bucket....I avoided music class in school like the plegue, and now I have to get inspired by it. The oly thing that comes to my mind is a dark/royal blue topsy turvy with piano keys wrapped around like a stair case with a bride and groom playing the sax climbing to the top and a wire topper with music notes on it. I think that could be a really cool cake but I don't know. The Kansas fair is always traditional cakes, you know white on white. I don't know if the old ladys who judge will be appaled by my interpertation of a wedding cake. I only started decorating about a year ago so I think if I could at least place it will really help my budding business. So if any of you have any Ideas it would be really helpfull.

Besides the great inspiration here on CC, when I need to get some ideas I always look at the websites from the bakeries in Las Vegas. You get everything from elegant to over-the-top there. I really like Freeds. I am actually doing a music themed cake this fall and found some great inspiration on that site.

Good luck and can't wait to see your post of the pics!

I'm thinking a white with silver accents, topsy turnvy, since they are into white cakes, and the piano key stairs. With the bride and groom as you stated. I love the idea on the music notes.

For our county fair, I am ATTEMPTING to make a revolving, musical carousel....... My hubby says I am in over my head, but that just makes me try harder........ So far finding all the things I think I need has been the hardest part.....

lol... I am like that with my hubby. he is very supportive of everything I do but if he sees one of my sketches and says wow that looks too difficult then it incurages me more than if he says it looks simple. btw why do non decoraters always look at cakes and say "this should be really simple" and they always turn out the be the most difficult. I always tell friends, the more accents you put on the easier it is to hide the mistakes... oh well Have a nice day!

Poobear..... I threw that "merry-go-round" thingy in there to use for your "MUSICAL" theme....... I think you could really WOW them if say you put your notes and staff etc. around a moving cake ! I haven't come up with a muic box that will play for longer than a few minutes....( like three ), but I'm still looking.... I finally found a turn table that I could hide that is battery operated..... They SAY it will last for three hours with fresh batteries.......The same with the lights that are going around the canopy.............. Keep your fingers crossed...... Even if I don't win anything, I will still be excited that I got it together ! icon_lol.gif
