I am so frusterated with my friend and I need to vent!!! First, she orders a baby shower cake from me, She saw my picture of my Jungle Baby shower cake and asked for one just like it, but to add some monkeys. No problem! I prepare for the order...baking....making the fondant animals. Then, i get a phonecall from her that she doesn't need it. Someone had already ordered a cake and she was not aware! UGHHHH!!!
BUT, she says can you make me a purple and pink glittery butterfly cake for her daughters bday. No problem.... I bake...... I travel 2 times ( 30 mins away) to the cake store for luster dust....make the fondant butterflies... call her to confirm a pick up time for cake and you will not believe this..... but she says.... I'm sorry, I ordered some cupcakes from Target because I wasn't sure if you were doing it.
Well HELLO!!!!! I said I could do it!!!!! I'm sooooo mad!!!!! Then she says but I will need a cake in November...... NOPE!!!! I"M BOOKED!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent!
Lisa

Crazy in an understatement..she's stupid to say the least.. thumbsdown.gif
You should let her pay anyway. What about your ingredients and your time ? Or maybe she didn't even take that into consideration .

A lesson learned! Don't start baking until you have money in hand! And tell you you need the money X amount of days before the event so you can prepare the decorations! I guess at least you have some on hand for the next cake order...... that really sucks though and I'm sure it's really frustrating? Why is she ordering stuff from Target or wherever anyway? Why didn't she call to ask you if you were still doing it if she wasn't sure? Sometimes I think EVERY cake needs a contract to it! I haven't done that yet but I've only baked for family and friends and I've gotten money upfront - I know I'm lucky! CC Has prepared me for the battles I may fight in the future though w/ crazy customers! Hopefully I'll be ready if it ever comes up (though I pray it doesn't!)

I do a LOT of business with friends and through friends, and it is always great until there is a problem. I sympathize with you - I would've been pissed too. icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif . Some people just don't realize what's involved.

I have a few people who are on my 'ohhhh, so sorry, I have something else booked that day' list, thanks to wonderful experiences like yours. icon_wink.gif

What did you do with all the extra cake???

That sucks, I would be so mad, this probably happens to people all the time too. Especially with friends.

I froze the extra cake and I am using it this week for cake orders, but I am still so ticked off about it. I know.... why couldn't she call me if she was unsure???? People really don't understand all of the work and time we put into these cakes. I knew you all would understand! Thanks!

Did you tell her either time that you had already started baking the cake? I think you need to sit down and talk to her about it. If you don't it is just going to fester between you.

I agree....make sure she knows that you had already made the cakes! Also...I would not tell her that you are booked....I would tell her that the reason why you are saying no for November is because she left you hanging...TWICE!!!

Don't let anyone walk all over you like that. If you don't want to tell her, please let me have her phone number.

Her? She wouldn't ever get a cake from me!!! My answer to her whenever she asks would be NO!! No explaination, no lies, no beating around the bush and especially no maybe when you really want to say no. I don't have the time or the patience for ignorance.

yes, i will not be making any cakes for her. Some friends you should just never do business with. She has no clue she is being rude.
i'll continue to be friends with her.....just no cakes from me icon_biggrin.gif
Her loss.....my cake would have been much cuter than her target cupcakes.

I agree with everybody else's replies. I would probaly have been inclined to have told her "well, that's fine but I would like to have the money back that I have already spent on this cake." I don't like calling people stupid, but she is stupid with a capital S. Does she think you would just forget to make the cake or forget how to bake a cake or what? I'm sorry to go off like this, but I have a sister just like this and NO I don't do anything for her anymore unless it comes to her kids, like babysitting and things like that. Why O Why do people have to act so dumb!
