I have a wedding cake due tomorrow and they wanted all buttercream roses bordering each layer. I'm starting to make them and I wanted to know if anyone had an idea of around how many I need to make? It's a round 12", 10" and 8" and will have a small bouquet on the top. They will also have some leaves in between and around so they won't be sitting on top of eachother. Thanks in advance!!

I went to my photos and counted how many roses I had bordering my 8 inch cake and it's 12. Hope that will help give you some idea. Looks like you'll be making lots of roses!

here's what I do..........I take my cake pan and invert it on the table......then I sit there and make roses and line them up around the cake pan (this will usually give you one or two more than you need) and then for the 12" I would add an extra 5 roses, maybe 3 more for the 8 12 and a couple more for the 8.........so add like 10-15 extra roses depending on your mood at the time!! This way you know that if you accidentally smoosh one when you're placing them or whatever you have some room for error with the extras! Oh and make sure to bring extra icing when you assemble.......just in case you end up smooshing more than you think and you have to make roses on the spot!!!!!! (hoping that won't happen to ya, but prepare for the worst right??? )
