I have been asked to a birthday cake for a 14 yr old girl that loves golf. I gave the grandmother some suggestions but she is leaving the creativity up to me. It will be a smaller cake to serve about 20 people. I want to do a "standing" pink golf bag. All the pics I have seen of golf bags are scuplted sheet cakes with the bag laying down. I was going to do 6 inch rounds stacked, dowel-rodded, and covered in fondant. I thought I could make the pockets on the bag from fondant also.

My question is: Do you think a "standing" golf bag is asking for disaster?

Could it be that the only reason they are not mostly done this way is because it is harder and may have stability issues?

I appreciate any input or different ideas for the girly golf cake.

Thanks guys and gals!

all those pockets and other stuff hanging off the basic bag have a high chance of drooping, falling off, and stretching the rest of the fondant.

gumpaste add ons would be lighter.

basic principle of construction is good.

of course it's harder, it's 3D, but it is also much more dramatic and likely to get more oohs and aahs so DO IT! yeah yeah

It's been done before and unfortunately I cannot offer advice so consider this a bump heehee
