I had a girl come in yesterday and order a cake. It will be a 9" round. She is taking it to a nursing class at college but she was open to the decor but said that she had just recently called off an engagement and this was going to be a celebration cake. She said I could be creative but didn't know how to do a canceled wedding cake that wouldn't be tacky. HELP!! I envision it being a statement of strength or oh I don't know.
PLEASE HELP ME! I want this to be an awesome cake!

Did the young lady say why the engagement was called off? Was she happy it had been called off, that is, did she call off the engagement? If so then the idea of freedom, traveling the world, making new friends, watching a sunrise as a new day in her life begins could be used. Good luck this could be really challenging.

The only saying that I've heard like in funny cards and stuff when people cancel the wedding is.........(bride) made a mistake and gave (groom) the WRONG finger!!

but I guess that would all depend on her sense of humor.......if she said it's celebratory she might not mind.......but depending on how proper she is LOL she may get offended....this is a challenging cake for sure!

she seemed to be happy. Kinda liberated. But she did insist that she didn't want it to focus on the engagement as much as her new beginning and starting over. Please Help!!

There ya go! Give her a new beginning cake icon_smile.gif Maybe something along the lines of "Turning over a new leaf". You could make fondant leaves icon_smile.gif

I was kind of thinking the same type of thing - new beginning - sunshine, happy things, smiley faces icon_biggrin.gif Do you know anything at all about this girl, like what her interests or hobbies are?

What about something along the lines of being as free as a bird?

I clicked on the galleries and searched for "new beginnings" and found this one. I think it's cute.

Auntsushi, that's too cute. Maybe add an empty bird cage between the tiers wit the door open?

How about a new day dawning at sunrise? I also like the empty birdcage idea.

This one is hard. Good Luck!

Lots of great ideas!
Birds & butterflies symbolize freedom; flowers & trees might symbolize growth; Sunshine= happiness; an open door or an open book with a page slightly lifted as if turning= new adventures/ new beginnings.
