I have been a scratch baker my whole life, and the easiest cake I have ever done is a mud cake. There is a Dark Chocolate Mud cake by Nati in recipes on this site. Try that, it won't fail for you. Easy peasy!

Please note that if you do make any of the mudcakes that i've put in the recipes section, the correct baking temp is 160degrees celcius and not 180.
enjoy

The most important thing to remember about baking from scratch is that it is science. Measurements should be exact (no eyeballing). Follow that rule and you will be fine. Baking from scratch is not hard!!!! If you are consistent your product will be consistent.

A good cake for a first timer would be a one bowl cake, any cake that just gets dumped in and mixed. But even a two step cake is not as hard as it sounds.

Good Luck!!
