what so-lite (or solite) is?? I was sent it by mistake by a cake prod. supplier I use - but apart from saying to mix it with milk & add to icing, not 100% what it is... Does it replace butter? can you use it like BC icing? or will it not go hard?

Thanks if you can shed any light on this for me...

Fi

PS: I did email the co. and ask what it was, but they never got back to me... li'l buggers!

Solite is just a vegetable shortening, you beat 200gms of it, with a couple of tablespoons of water, then add some vanilla, and then gradually beat in 500gms of sifted pure icing sugar. VOILA, you've got buttercream. It's what i imagine CRISCO to be like.
cheers

now you have said that solite is yummy you have to tell me where you accidentally brought it from.

seems you can only buy bulk or wholesale

is it a white color or yellow???

i really want to make pure white buttercream!!!!

Hey kylie...

I got it from www.cakedeco.com.au ... it came in a small tub which u mixed with milk & 1kg of icing - I halved it first to test it out - didn't want to waste a whole kg of icing sugar! so u don't have to make a huge batch at a time if u don't want to...

It becomes PURE WHITE... none of this yellow-ish white icing... so now I know how to make white icing instead of buying whitener!

It is a bit sickly sweet tho... if you lick the bowl out just that toooo much! hehehe ... but then, so is the regular butter icing... kids will love it!

I stuck the cake in the fridge to see if it would harden... and it did... i guess there is enough icing sugar to make it go hard.

thanks fi

i buy from them all the time, only got some luster dust yesterday, wish i had of known about the solite earlier. lol

your a bowl licker too, hey. between me and my four kids its a wonder that i have any bc left when i make some. lol.

hate when i make a dark color though, anyone who walks in the door knows you have been into the icing by the color of your lips and tongue. lol

post the cake when your done and thanks for the info on the solite, i think i will head to cakedeco right now and order some.

I was actually meaning when it was mixed with the other ingredients Marissa... I've had it in my cupboard for a while and was put off from the stinky smell of it, hence not sure whether to use it or not... but once mixed the stinky smell seemed to go.

I wondered! Since someone else too was talking about it tasting sweet and all, I guess they must have meant when it was all mixed up together too. Didnt want you all in australia to think we had yummy vegetable shortening! lol!
