Oh you did a wonderful job! Very beautiful. I like the picture with the cake topper the best because, like pp said, it looks more "complete." I do, however, agree about the cake topper being too tall. icon_smile.gif Again, wonderful job! icon_biggrin.gif

Your first wedding cake!?!?!!!
It is superb! I want a sugar veil pen!
I'm going to google that to find out what it is.
Your cake is just gorgeous. Although I really like
the topper, i don't think they picked one that matched the cake very well.
Nice job. Just imagine how beautiful your NEXT
wedding cake will be.

Great Job I like both but the second looks complete with the topper but have to agree the topper looks a bit tall for the cake...Super job love the scroll work on the sides

I bet Sugarveil makes a lot of sales from "word of mouth" or in our case "word of web" icon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

Wow, I somehow missed all of these last posts. Thank you everyone for the nice comments icon_redface.gif . I was really nervous about this cake and everything for the most part went well, so as long as the bride doesnt call me and tell me she hated it, maybe I can be talked into doing another wedding cake sometime! LOL!

Anyway for those who are curious the sugarveil pen can be found here:

www.sugarveil.com They are pretty pricey, but I got it from DH for my birthday. He kept asking if I had used it yet, and I hadnt had the occasion to until the wedding cake. It was nice to not have icing dripping everywhere. I am super messy, so it helped! There are so many other things you can do with the pen and icing. I did not use the icing for the wedding cake, I just used regular royal icing and it worked wonderfully! It is very easy to use.

Merissa

Your cake is beautiful, well done. thumbs_up.gif
I like the pic with the topper . I think it finishes off the cake nicely, and i think its taken on a better angle.

Well I ended up with both pics on my website, I couldnt decide! I figure I only have a couple up there, so for now I will just do both! I think maybe I should make up a coupld of generic toppers for an occasion like this, to change the look.

Your cake is beautiful it's hard to believe it's your first wedding cake! I had to laugh when I read that about your two year old although I'm sure you did not! My dd did that when I was making her 2nd birthday cake and it was right before the party so it was what it was. Great job! I now have another item on my wish list!I want that pen!

i have to reply too! even if you have decided to use both pics for now.

i love the outdoor photo! it looks like it was photographed for a magazine! your cake looks like it can be on a magazine! wow! first wedding cake too! great job! i can totally imagine it with flowers too. i have an entire garden wedding with your cake as centerpiece in my mind now icon_smile.gif

but i also like the one with the topper even if it may be too tall because the scrollwork you made complements the bride's dress on the topper. it's a good way of showing how you can create a cake to match something that the bride brought to you.

congrats on the first wedding!

your scroll work is amazing! did you stamp it prior to doing the scrolls? I would have the scolls so bass ackwards it wouldn't be funny...

You did an amazing job and I would put both pics in your book because it shows two different versions of the cake...jmo...

Thanks, you all are very sweet. No I did not stamp them. I was terrified to do the scrolls too, but actually they were pretty easy. I practiced a couple of minutes on my cake pan and took a deep breath and went for it.

Well I heard back from the bride today. I got an email and I will tell you I was so nervous to open it! Anyway here is what she said:

Thank you so much for making my wedding cake. It was absolutely beautiful!! Everyone was shocked at how delicious it was even the fondant! I will definitely refer your services to others.

I was very relieved. Funny what she said about the fondant! LOL! I think I talked her into it a little. I really wasnt very comfortable doing buttercream. Well I am glad she was happy.
