Simple Syrup ?????

I am baking cupcakes and always use a simple syrup to keep them moist. This order, however, is for white cupcakes. Is there any type of syrup (besides just sugar and water) that I would make that would not drastically change the flavor of the white cake ??

maybe try vanilla

I keep a syrup made up with just vanilla, it works well for the white cakes. It does not change the taste.
